On Sunday, the 44-year-old host’s baby boy has made a dramatic entrance into the world in the lobby of his and his wife’s apartment building.
Seth Meyer has welcomed his second child— son Axel Strahl— with Alexi Ashe on 8th April and splendid the audience with the incredible story of his birth a day after his arrival. The “Late Night with Seth Meyers” host has told the crowd that his son Axel couldn’t wait for his parents to reach the hospital to make his debut.
Seth has thanked the New York Police Department— who arrived just after the baby did and has helped to cut the cord— and his neighbors, who put towels in the dryer to keep Axel warm with until more help arrived.
Seth has revealed, “I called 911 and over the course of a minute conversation, I said, ‘We’re about to have a baby — we’re having a baby — we had a baby.’ ”
Seth—already a proud father to 2-year-old son Ashe Olson— got emotional as he spoke about his wife but has attempted to play the tears off by joking, “I’m getting choked up thinking about how brave I was.”
He has explained that his newborn’s middle name honored Alexi’s grandparents— who met in a hospital in Austria the day after they were redeemed from a concentration camp.
Seth has also shown off a picture of the birth on the show— which has depicted his wife lying on the ground holding their baby to her chest as emergency personnel held an oxygen mask to her mouth. He has knelt beside her, beaming away at the camera.
People have congratulated the couple on social media on their baby’s arrival, with one user tweeting: “@sethmeyers you had me weeping with joy tonight. Congratulations to you and your growing family. Welcome, Axel. A beautiful story to erase all the bad news from my head.”
In November, Seth has announced that he and his wife were expanding their family on his show. They have welcomed son Ashe in March 2016.
