Lin-Manuel Miranda has lost his maternal grandmother on Christmas…
The ‘Hamilton’ star has shared this news on Twitter along with some black and white photos Abuela on Monday night in which she can be seen holding his 3-year-old son Sebastian and one of the images include Miranda hugging her in the hospital bed. He tweeted, “Abuela Mundi passed away this Christmas morning.” He continued, “I may have more words in the days to come but for now my heart is in pieces and that’s where it’s gonna be for a bit.” She has also inspired a character of Abuela Claudia in his Tony-winning musical ‘In the Heights’.
In 2015, he tweeted: “Abuela Mundi is seeing the matinee.” He continued, “Hope she likes Hamilton better than Heights, to which she said, ‘you had me win the lotto and you KILLED ME?’” In a personal essay for Broadway.com in 2007, he has written: “She took care of my father when he was a kid in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico. His parents never stopped working, and when I was born, she came to take care of me and my sister in Washington Heights.”
In 2007 article in The New Yorker, he has said that she (his grandmother) has raised him. He added, “Every time she sees me, she worries about me being too thin. I can do no wrong in that woman’s eyes. She’s our abuela. There’s always an abuela at home.” There is one positive news amid the sad news for Miranda i.e. he and his wife Vanessa Nadal are expecting their second child and earlier this month he has confirmed on Twitter on the red carpet at the London Evening Standard Theatre Awards 2017 with his wife, who was sporting her growing belly.
When asked by a fan whether Nadal is pregnant, he told: “Oh hell yeah”. We will miss Abuela Mundi!!
