The much-awaited competition series is back with a fresh makeover.
Katy Perry has given a night to remember to a 19-year-old “American Idol” contestant Benjamin Glaze from Enid, Oklahoma on Sunday’s premiere of “American Idol.” During auditions, Benjamin— an electric store cashier— has revealed to judge Katy and fellow judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie that he hasn’t locked lips with any girl before.
He has admitted that he has never been in a relationship and can’t kiss a girl without being in a relationship. Katy, without any hesitation, stood from her seat and said, “Come here, Benjamin. Come here right now!” As the contestant went in for a kiss on the cheek, she has turned her head at the last second and landed a kiss on his lips.
After the kiss, Benjamin sang his heart out during the audition but failed to convince the judges to send him to Hollywood. Katy has revealed that she really enjoyed meeting Benjamin that day.
She has said, “You gave my heart aflutter. Next time just take your time. I think you were a bit rushed and I think that’s because I sped up your BPM of the heartbeat.” Although Benjamin failed to convince the judges to send him to Hollywood, it’s quite safe to say that it was a memorable night for the contestant.
Benjamin has admitted, “It was an eye-opening experience. I very much learned I am a terrible kisser!” Katy has told PEOPLE of their judging styles by saying that it’s very constructive criticism. She has explained, “Personally, I’m a straight shooter. I’m very cut and dry sometimes.” She has admitted that it seems a little not soft — she does try and watch herself as she does know how it feels to be in their shoes as she was in their shoes 10 years ago.
