Whitney Houston molested as a child, as per documentary

A new documentary related to Whitney Houston— premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday— has made stunning allegations about the early childhood of the icon.

In “Whitney” accusations that Dee Dee Warwick sexually abused the late star are brought forth. Dee Dee was Whitney’s cousin as well as the sister of singer Dionne Warwick. Dee Dee died in 2008— four years before Whitney died after drowning in a bathtub— which was caused in part by heart disease and cocaine use. The director of “Whitney,” Kevin Macdonald has told Indiewire that Whitney’s half-brother Gary Garland has said to him that he had been sexually assaulted as a child by Dee Dee and believed that Whitney had also been molested. Gary agreed to appear on camera with his story.

Kevin has said, “He’s saying ‘I was abused by this person’ and told me, ‘I think she abused Whitney.’” He has explained that Pat Houston, Gary’s wife— who’s here— has told him that, yeah, Whitney had told her this but not given any details.

The director has said that two months went by after he has talked to Gary before Whitney’s aunt, Mary Jones spoke to him to confirm that the singer has been abused. The 50-year-old filmmaker has said that he has decided to reach out the singer’s family initially about the possibility that she has been assaulted after viewing old videos of Whitney.

Kevin has told the outlet, “There was something about her discomfort in her skin, something about the way she presents or hides, her lack of overt sexuality.” He has said that she’s this beautiful woman, but she’s very closed in her demeanor, and he had been watching her for several months and saying to editors, ‘There’s something about her that reminds me of something.’

The director had immediately realized what it had reminded him of when he recalled a previous movie he had been working on about child sexual abuse. Kevin admitted, “That led somebody to tell me, ‘Whitney told me she was abused,’ but they wouldn’t go on camera.” He has recounted the story to Deadline and has said that he had also reached out to Whitney’s ex-husband Bobby Brown about the abuse.
